Profile of the Erie city

Transportation

The city is very well connected as far as transportation and roads are concerned. The Interstate Highway System connects Erie with the rest of the country very well. There are six exits for Erie along Interstate 90, which runs from Seattle to Boston and is one of the most major cross-country highways in the US. Erie is also connected to states as south as West Virginia through Interstate 79.

Landscape of Erie

Erie is often referred to as Gem City, because of the sparkling and shiny lake that borders it. It is also referred to regularly in Pennsylvania as “the city by the bay,” since it is located on the Presque Isle Bay of Lake Erie.

The location of the city and this area around it was once known as the Erie Triangle. There were disputes over this land, which was claimed by four different states – New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts. It became a part of Pennsylvania officially in 1792 and was sold to the state for a total of just over 150,000 dollars.

Economy

In terms of industry and economy, Erie is the corporate headquarters of GE Transportation, the Erie Insurance Group, and Marquette Savings Bank. Over 10 percent of America’s plastics are manufactured or finished in Erie’s plastics plants.

Tourism is also a big part of the local economy, which is spearheaded by the Presque Isle State Park, which over 4 million people visit every year.

Thanks to Pennsylvania not having any tax on clothing, shopping centers like Millcreek Mall and Peach Street Stores are very popular destinations for shoppers from Ohio, New York, and the Canadian province of Ontario.

Sports and Attractions

While the city does not have any professional sports teams, there is still a lot of recreation and culture to be found in Erie. For example, the Lake Erie Ballet performs well-known programs throughout the year and the Erie Civic Music books performances by musicians and other entertainers from around the world.

The historic Warner Theatre is also a great tourist attraction, not just for the shows that it hosts, but for the location and the history behind the theater as well.

Erie's location along the shores of Lake Erie provides a lot of fun things to do outdoors. As mentioned earlier, the region's largest attraction is Presque Isle State Park. The Erie region also has many vineyards and produces the third largest amount of wine in all of America.
